Why I'm Here
Throughout our lives, we fill numerous roles. You may be filling roles given to you by society, and not even know it. For me, the roles I fill are a never ending story. If I look into the past, they could be that of girlfriend, waitress, scared little girl. If I look to the present, they could be mother, student, friend, hairdresser. What has never changed is my appreciation for fine art. Some of my earliest memories are of creating art, with my crayons then, and the immense satisfaction I felt when I looked at one of my creations. I knew it had a piece of my heart.

Now here I am in Oklahoma, quite possibly one of the most remote areas of the art world, yet the people here are full of heart. Oklahoma City is brimming with potential and support for the arts is strong. The city is yearning to meet this potential and people want to see and support. The people just need to give it some direction. The best way to do this is to simply keep art alive. In my own tiny way, I'd like to do this.

From my singular effort, in the hopes of making a difference, I'd like to show this piece of my heart for the other piece of my heart: my daughter. While I try to have a firm sense of self- identity, because I think a true role model always has this, all I do is for my daughter. As her sole provider, I not only find it my duty but the most rewarding role I have every filled. The below image is an oil painting I did when she was 6 months old. Oh, how the time flies. Sophia is ten year's old now.
